Are you a new driver for a Minnesota Special Transportation Services (STS) or a Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) provider? Then you need this training bundle!
The Ambulatory New Driver Training Course Bundle includes access to online and classroom driver training required for new drivers according to Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) Administrative Rules’ 8840.5910 Driver and Attendant Training Requirements. All STS/NEMT drivers need to take this training before and within 45 days of providing special transportation services.
Our bundle has a mix of online training and in-person classroom events. Our online training is interactive, can be taken on a either a mobile device or on a computer, and can be conducted at your own pace! Our STS classroom instructors are knowledgeable and experienced in driver and attendant training in defensive driving, passenger assistance, first aid, and vulnerable passenger abuse prevention.

- Control of bleeding

- Recognition of sudden illness such as stroke, heart attack, convulsions, fainting, and seizures
- When and how to summon emergency medical assistance services
- Fulfills three (3) hours of online training in first aid
- Standard First Aid Classroom

- Includes topics in the Standard First Aid Online course
- Fulfills one (1) hour of classroom demonstration of first aid topics
- Passenger Assistance Online
- In accordance with MnDOT 8840.5910 Subpart 2 Section D; Subpart 5
- Discussion of functional limitations of the aging process and major disabling conditions and how those conditions affect mobility and communication
- Description of the uses, functions, and limitations of common assistive devices used by the elderly and persons with disabilities and the proper means of providing assistance to persons using those devices
- Attitudes & myths about people with disabilities and the elderly
- Effects of mobility impairments, medication, and past experiences on passengers and how to behave in a sensitive and professional manner
- Instruction in guidelines for appropriate handling of a vehicle transporting persons with disabilities
- Wheelchair and mobility equipment boarding and securement procedures
- Discussion of common assistive equipment, including the following:
- manual and electric wheelchairs and electric scooters
- canes
- crutches
- walkers
- leg braces, prostheses, and slings
- guide dogs
- Fulfills four (4) hours of online passenger assistance training

- Driving in different lighting and weather conditions
- Handling pedestrians, jaywalkers, and road rage
- Controlling speed, following distance and stopping distance
- Effects of impaired driving, including while under the influence of drugs and alcohol
- Fulfills four (4) hours of online training in defensive driving
- Including but not limited to topics such as:

- Abuse Prevention online course
- In accordance with MnDOT 8840.5910 Subpart 2 Section C; Subpart 8
- Includes instruction in statutes, rules and applicable procedures relating to the following:
- sexual abuse or misconduct
- the protection of vulnerable adults
- the maltreatment of minors
- the appropriate response to victims of abuse, neglect, maltreatment, or sexual misconduct
- the reporting requirements for incidents of abuse, neglect, maltreatment, or misconduct
- Includes instruction in statutes, rules and applicable procedures relating to the following:

Regarding STS Pre-Driving Training
To complete this course, you are also required to provide proof that you’ve received demonstration and have practiced topics covered in MnDOT 8840.5910 by a MnDOT-approved STS Instructor in addition to taking our online training course. Please talk to your supervisor for more information about MnDOT STS training.
Regarding Classroom Training
The Standard First Aid Classroom and Passenger Assistance B: Classroom courses in this bundle is required to be attended in person. Each event listed in the course page requires a separate fee to attend it. When you access the Standard First Aid Classroom after purchasing this bundle, there are instructions on the course page that provides more details on the pricing and location of the next event. Please consider purchasing the ‘Wheelchair-Certified New Driver Training Bundle’ instead of the ‘Ambulatory New Driver Training Course Bundle’. Please be aware that purchasing both bundles will have you pay twice for the same courses in each bundle, but it will not give you access to more than one copy or instance of each course in their respective bundles.
